The...So many communities will not let you do this. The Common Milkweed does spread but it is really easy to kill in areas you don't want it, just keep mowing it and it will die eventually. Butterfly Weed is actually avoided by my Monarchs, they just don't use it for laying eggs on. In late Spring the females lay eggs on the Swamp Milkweed and then in June to July they lay on my Common and Showy Milkweeds.<br />Another peeve of mine is the "schoolyard" idea, that somehow schools are going to allow milkweeds to grow and every year some local naive science teacher plants the stuff and then when Summer break comes around the janitors are out spraying Round up on milkweeds killing hundreds of caterpillars with no remorse.
